5 Low Calorie Cocktails For The End Of Summer!

I know. I know. No, really … I know.

You’re going to drink. I’ve suggested, and advised, and hoped that you’d cut out the alcohol to really see the amazing weight loss gains you want but, it’s been a long summer and my words have fallen on deaf ears.

Which is okay! I get it. It’s summer time and social drinking is just a part of life.

With that in mind, let’s see if we can at least mitigate some of the weight gain that comes with indulging in alcoholic beverages. Here are 5 of the lowest calorie alcoholic drinks to enjoy yourself and hopefully maintain your weight!

TEQUILA & SODA

Tequila (like vodka) is derived from a plant, in this case agave. One shot of tequila is roughly 97 calories and contains zero carbohydrates, fats, or proteins.

Add a little zero calorie soda and a wedge of lime and you’ve got a delicious cocktail for less than 100 calories to sip on.  You can also play with the flavor by using coconut water or fresh mint instead of lime.

DRY MARTINI

Remember when I mentioned vodka? Ordering this classic dry will cut down on the calories as it uses less vermouth than a traditional martini. You can also add a lemon wedge or bitters for additional flavor and keep your drink under 200 calories.

GIN & (DIET) TONIC

A gin & tonic is a classic cocktail. The easiest way to make it better for you? Sub in diet tonic water and save over 120 calories.

This is a simple plan for most mixed drinks. Use a diet soda and cut down on the total calorie count. A gin and diet tonic has approximately 125 total calories.

WHITE WINE

Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay. Take your pick! A 5 ounce serving of white wine has approximately 125 calories and is a great option on a hot summer night.

You can also go half and half, pouring yourself a half serving of wine and adding 0 calorie sparkling water for a nice spritzer.

LIGHT BEER

I hate beer. I’ve been to Germany multiple times and even there I couldn’t find something I liked. If you must drink this awful substance, do us all a favor and go light. Your typical light beer is a 100 calories or so, compared to 200-250 on regular beer.

Just don’t drink too many, or you’ll have negated any positives of going light.

TIPS & TRICKS

If you can, make your drinks at home! Host a party and control what you are drinking! Avoid store bought mixers that are high in sugar and syrups and use low calorie ingredients.

Also, instead of syrups or mixers, add fresh herbs like mint, rosemary, and basil to add a kick to your cocktail! Every little bit of caloric savings helps!
